M880.
Commands, radio communication
and integration.

M880 is a family of systems introduced in 2016. It includes push-button and joystick transmitters and receivers with different outputs. M880 identifies a system generation, not a complete configuration.

What sets the models apart.

Transmitter formats in the M880 family
Model / seriesControlsPractical difference
RAY EPSingle-stage buttonsCompact panel for discrete commands.
WAVE26, 8, 10 or 12 two-stage buttonsStepped commands; DM versions include a feedback display.
ZEDSingle- or dual-axis joysticks, buttons and selectorsCompact enclosure with a flexible panel layout.
ZEUS2 / THOR2Joysticks and auxiliary commandsPanels for multifunction machines; display versions available.
AXTBelt-worn push-button transmitterDesigned for forestry winches.

Earlier WAVE and ZEUS generations must not be equated with WAVE2 and ZEUS2. The generation is identified from the equipment labels and documentation.

Outputs and interfaces.

Discrete commands

Relay or MOSFET outputs for ON/OFF functions. Output type is selected using the wiring diagram: voltage, load and connection logic matter.

Proportional control

Depending on the receiver, PWM, current and voltage outputs are available. These provide continuously variable control, for example of electrohydraulic functions, rather than simple on/off switching.

Controller communication

Suitable configurations support CAN Bus, CANopen and RS232/RS485. L and M also offer PROFINET and EtherNet/IP variants. These protocols are family capabilities, not standard equipment on every receiver.

Different sizes.
Different signal counts.

Examples of M880 receiver capabilities from the series catalogue
ReceiverOutputsEnclosure protection
S DCUp to 14 MOSFET and 4 analogue outputsIP66
L AC / L DC16 relays or 20 MOS; up to 8 analogue outputsIP66
H AC / H DCUp to 73 relay or MOS and up to 32 analogue outputsIP66
M AC22 relays and 4 analogue outputsIP20 — installation requires appropriate protection

Maximum capabilities depend on version and layout. Not all outputs are necessarily available simultaneously in every system. Supply and electrical specifications must be checked in the selected receiver’s documentation.

What needs to be agreed.

Frequency and channel management

M880 offers radio versions in the 433/434 MHz, 868 MHz, 915 MHz and 2.4 GHz bands. A specific version is selected; there is no single universal module for every band.

AFA automatically manages radio channel selection; certain versions offer a fixed channel, LBT or Frequency Hopping. The option depends on the radio module and application conditions.

STOP and operating commands

The series technical data lists PL e, category 4 to ISO 13849-1 for the applicable STOP function. For joystick UMFS commands, it lists PL d, category 3.

These ratings apply to specific functions. They do not assign the same rating to the entire machine: the result depends on circuit integration, system version and the machine risk assessment.

Options with a specific purpose.

KAPTA
Pairing the transmitter and receiver without opening their enclosures, while retaining exclusive machine control by one operator.
MTRS
Control of multiple receivers and transfer of control between transmitters through a locking and unlocking procedure.
RTAS
Adjustment of minimum and maximum proportional output values from the transmitter using a protected procedure.
DSC
Changing movement speed during operation for precise positioning.
iREADY
System activation only when the transmitter is pointed at a dedicated infrared receiver in a designated area.
Tilt Sensor
Response to abnormal transmitter position or a fall, according to system settings.
Cable control
For compatible versions, a cable connection between transmitter and receiver instead of the radio link.

Options are not automatically included on every model. Availability is checked for the specific transmitter, receiver and system version.

How to check
that the system fits your application.

  1. Commands: enough buttons and axes; discrete and proportional functions clearly identified.
  2. Electrical integration: receiver supply, output types and required controller protocol match.
  3. Radio version: band, operating mode and compatible transmitter specified.
  4. Safety: STOP, interlocks and required behaviour documented; machine integration verified.
  5. Package: batteries, charger, cables, mountings and agreed options listed separately.

Technical basis: IMET M880 catalogue, revision 1.1 (08/2025), and the manufacturer’s technology descriptions. Where revisions differ, documentation for the specific version takes precedence.
